I hope everyone had a blessed Easter, we certainly did. Such beautiful weather. I am reflecting on Mary today. The perspective of a Mother, watching her precious son be beaten so badly and strung on a cross. As a Mother, it makes me ache to my core.
It’s heartbreak beyond any words and a pain only a mother could understand. She had known from the start that Jesus was most likely destined for suffering (remember Simeon’s prophecy in Luke 2:35: “A sword will pierce your own soul too”), but nothing could have prepared you to watch your baby (now a man) beaten, mocked, and nailed to a cross.

I held Him first beneath the stars,
Soft breath, small hands, no earthly scars.
He laughed, He learned, He grew in grace,
The Son of God with dirt on His face.
I watched Him heal, I watched Him pray,
I watched Him give His life away.
But not like this—not nailed and torn,
The boy I birthed, the crown of thorn.
My heart broke loud where none could see,
A silent scream inside of me.
I could not stop the blood, the pain,
But still I whispered through the rain—
“This is my Son, my flesh, my King,
And even now… I trust that King.”

One response to “Happy Tuesday”
Beautiful thoughts and poem, Jennifer.
