What are your favorite sports to watch and play?

Football

Golf

Gymnastics

Baseball

Volleyball

In that order.

I don’t play golf as an adult but I did as a kid and teenager. I got my first kid clubs around 5. It was the cutest little cloth white bag with my name on them. I wish I still had them. My parents and Grandparents on my Mothers side were all tournament golfers, so I grew up at the country club pretty much every weekend. My Dad was the VP at Brookwood for many years. Maybe that’s actually why I DONT play. Long hot days sometimes, but those were good years. I also played T ball and took gymnastics for several years.

I have respect for any and all athletes. It’s a serious commitment to play sports.

There are so many benefits that come from playing sports. Physical health (obviously), mental health, stress, confidence, and discipline to name a few. There’s a lack of mental toughness and self esteem in a lot of kids these days.

We have a niece that was so tiny and timid as a child, and literally would hardly even speak. My SIL put that child in softball and now she’s looking at scholarships to LSU and several other schools. She found her “thing.”

You don’t even have to like sports to respect athletes and their physical ability. Let people be great!!!😊

  1. I was too klutzy to play sports in school, and though I tried volleyball since some of my friends played, I was too afraid of getting hit with the ball, lol. When my son was in high school he did football and wrestling and I dearly loved to go to the games and tournaments.

    • That’s awesome! I have a cousin that coaches HS wrestling. I never played a sport at school and I wasn’t any good at softball, because my eyes are so bad. I couldn’t see the dang ball lol

High school football is SO fun! My brother played so we went to a lot of games. Even if Gage never plays HS football, I still want to go to their games bc it’s just so fun!

      • I look back so fondly on those days. The years the football team did well and extended the season we sat through many games in snow and cold but I really loved it! I knew nothing about wrestling before he joined the team, and thought, oh, well, okayyy, not expecting to enjoy it but I think I liked watching his wrestling matches even more than the football games. At least they were indoors, lol. After he graduated and left for college I felt so lost without my sports!

        • I bet! Things like that really become a big part of our lives. My best friend’s daughter is about to graduate and she is dreading it, bc basketball is their family thing. You meet a lot of people and it’s fun to cheer for a team. I totally get it! I could definitely be a sports Mom. Gage doesn’t show a lot of interest at this age but a lot changes in middle school. He’s really fast and his PE Coach has tried to get him into track, but he’s gotta want to do it. I’m glad you have find memories of it. Your son is lucky too, not all parents show up for their kids! He’s blessed.

We’d had a bad snowstorm so my son told me “Don’t even go. The weather is crap and I’m gonna get humiliated anyways.” He was up against the other team’s star wrestler in his weight class. In the upset of the century, my son won! I still kick myself for missing that.
