Hey friends, if you have deceased parents or family members, go check out your states treasury website and check to see if their names are listed. Sometimes it’s just a deposit on an electric bill or a phone bill. You just never know, but be prepared that it’s a long drawn out thing. They don’t make it easy by any means, but you’re entitled to it.
Several months back, I received a fb message from a family member that saw my parents names listed multiple times on a Ms.Treasury Unclaimed property list. They were looking for their dads name but saw mine and it showed our old address.
I vaguely remember Jay mentioning something to me about this a few years ago but we never talked about it again.
I decided to check it out and it’s several things. In total it amounts to about 5k and also some property shares and stocks.I have chosen to sell them, but it has been a complete fiasco getting this done. Including having a notary come out to our home multiple times. It’s 40$ a visit and 10$ per signature and instead of doing it all at once they’ve sent over each claim separately.🤪
They’ve lost several documents that I’ve had to resend and it is the slowest and craziest process I’ve ever been through with the exception of trying to get my brother’s home put in my name to sell. That was just like this, and this and it should be so simple, especially when there’s only one heir.
I think they’re honestly hoping you just give up. But I’m a few hundred dollars into this thing so I’m not gonna drop the ball. That’s a good amount of money, and it’s rightfully my parents, now mine. I have no idea what the property and stocks are. They haven’t given me any info other than it’s a property in Natchez, Ms.
Anyway, go check! You just never know!! If I can help in any way I’ll be glad to!
