I find it strange that Atheists often pour more passion into denying God than some Christians put into following him. If you truly don’t believe he exists, why waste so much time and energy fighting him? You don’t see people devoting their lives to disproving Bigfoot, dragons, or fairytales. But when it comes to God, the attacks are constant.
Scripture says his law is written on our hearts. Maybe that’s why the louder someone insists he isn’t real, the more it looks like they’re wrestling with the truth that He is. You can ignore a myth without ever thinking twice, but the reality of God gets under your skin.
And yes, I already know the typical comeback: “Christians are awful.” But the truth is..
We are all awful.
Of course there are awful Christians. There are awful people in every area of life. The Bible makes it clear that we are imperfect people clinging to a perfect Savior. We’re not walking around flawlessly. In fact we’re stumbling, praying, repenting, clinging to our faith and daily trying to live in a way that honors God. We’re learning to forgive when it’s hard, to serve when we’d rather be selfish, and to love when our flesh wants to snap back.
So when I see atheists pouring their energy into fighting God, I don’t see proof He isn’t real. I see proof He matters so much they can’t let Him go. Because nobody wages war against something they’re truly convinced doesn’t exist.
Atheists just don’t attack other faiths like this. It’s always Christianity. Why? Because Jesus doesn’t leave you neutral. He doesn’t say, “Believe whatever makes you happy.” He says, I am the way, the truth, and the life. That claim demands a decision. And rejection often shows up as hostility.
I think that hits people. I also think one reason New Age & Astrology is popular is because our souls deeply long for our Creator. New Age pretends it’s comforting and safe but it’s a dissociative coping mechanism, dressed up as spirituality. It also uses a LOT of biblical scripture. They take pieces of almost all religions and meld them into total misinformation .
It think it’s an easy quick fix for people struggling and who need something cling to because it never asks anything that hard of you. There’s no repentance (shadow work is not the same), no surrender, no dying to your flesh. Everything is about self-discovery, self-love, and self-power, and it’s fueled by sex and relationships. They are the most self entered practices. That may feel safe, and you may want them to be real, but it’s actually REAL dangerous. It’s a counterfeit comfort that avoids the actual repercussions of sin, guilt, and our desperate need for forgiveness. The security our souls long for is only found in him, not in the stars, not in energy crystals, not in self-made l, self serving rituals.
Anyway… that’s whole different conversation.. but I do speak from experience.
As a Christian I don’t take any of the insults personally, but I wish I understood it more. I know that Jesus loves them too. He’s not inviting you into religion or rules, but into a real relationship. The door is open. He’s calling you by name. All you ever have to do is say “yes.”
