Saying “Jesus loves You” is a true statement, but that is not the gospel.

Imagine walking up to a group of death row inmates and saying, “Look, the Judge really loves you.”

That’s what we do when we tell people about God’s love without helping them understand the seriousness of sin. The reality is even worse in real everyday life, because people don’t even realize they’re on death row.

It’s more honest to say:

“Hey, we’re all in very serious trouble… we’re all a broken, hot mess, but let me tell you what the Judge did for us and how it can change your life.”

That’s the Gospel.

That’s real love. 🙌
