Today was one of those days where as a parent, I’m wondering if I did the right thing.
The incident in Georgia (the school shooting) really upset me. It kinda lit a fire under my butt to do something I’ve been considering, but I feel so sick about feeling like we need to. My kids always have their Apple Air Tag watches on or in their backpacks for school, but I went ahead and got them both new iPhones today.
On one hand, that sounds so crazy because they’re so young, but this world is very different now. They both have a few kids in their classes that don’t have phones, but the majority do. Most of Gage’s assignments are QR code, so it’ll be easier for him and he can airdrop everything to his iPad or laptop.
I dunno. I’ve always heard the minute you give a kid a phone their childhood is over, but I also think it depends on the kid. They don’t abuse their iPad times or privileges, so what’s the difference? They can already FaceTime their friends and family, so hopefully nothing will really change.
I just need to know they can call me or text me ANYTIME for ANYTHING.
I cannot imagine something like that unfolding and not being able to have communication happening. So, it’s done and I need that peace of mind. I hope I don’t regret it, but I also hate that we have to prepare for such evil.
My heart breaks for the families and students that will forever be traumatized. So many lives destroyed in a matter of seconds.
God Speed.
